For years I kept hitting the ‘snooze button’ on taking care of myself because I was so busy taking care of others.
My wake-up call came when my cardiologist sat me down and gave me two choices. At 220 pound with a constant blood pressure reading of 145/90, my health was in jeopardy and my options were few. The first choice was to take blood pressure medicine almost daily for the rest of my life. The second choice was to start exercising, begin to lose weight and take control of my life. I took a deep breath, leaned into my faith and I chose to take control of my life.
My road to wellness came with a ton of twists, turns and more than a few bumps. Very serious “bumps” like fighting depression, becoming the primary caregiver to my twins (one whom has special needs), facing my immediate health issues and ultimately overcoming a very challenging divorce. Exercise became my outlet and my saving grace.
I learned to control my blood pressure, cholesterol levels, anxiety and stress by adding daily exercise. I educated myself by signing up for every fitness seminar I could find and I moved from the back of the class to the front by becoming an instructor. There were days when I hated my arms, covered my thighs with a sweatshirt tied around my waist and the Stairmaster taunted me. But I kept going.
My health began to improve and I began to make my goals like running marathons a reality! These feelings of accomplishment gave me the confidence to connect with other women who were interested in wellness and my passion soon became my profession; with 20 years of experience, education and numerous certifications I’ve been able to fulfill my purpose of training thousands to improve their quality of life through exercise and making healthy food choices.
In November of 2019, I stepped out on faith again based on my desire to help more people reach their fitness goals. Through social media I have developed quite an out-of-state audience, so I decided to create my own fitness channel, RBFitTV. I designed RBFitTV as a resource that viewers can access 24/7 in the safety and comfort of their own home. Little did I know that COVID would change the way the world interacts economically as well as socially, so creating a new road map to wellness took on a whole other twist that I am finding is exciting and fulfilling.
My story will always be of hope and faith because I see women who are ready to start just like I did years ago and I love to hear how their journey has blessed others. As for me, I am convinced that I am living my faith every single day---by training, educating, encouraging, uplifting and inspiring others to live a healthy strong prosperous life.
